Each year the Northeast BSU travels to New Orleans, Louisiana, the weekend of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday (Patriot's Day- always the third Monday of January) for a mission trip.
What is street ministry? Bourbon Street is a very social place. It is incredibly easy to strike up spiritual conversations there. You will have plenty of opportunities to talk with people about how to have a relationship with Christ. It might feel strange at first but you’ll get the hang of it. Believe it or not, most people are very open to talk about spiritual things. Who knows? You might be the first person that has ever really explained the Gospel to them.
Is it dangerous? Compared to sitting on your couch all weekend- yes, but then again riding on any highway is too. We do have rules we abide by to stay street smart and look out for one another.
Will people ask me questions that I don’t know the answer to? Probably. You don’t have to be a hydroelectric engineer, a physicist, and an electrician to turn on the lights in your house. You don’t have to know everything there is to know about the Bible to tell someone how to have a relationship with Christ. Sure, having knowledge will help. Study. Make a "cheat sheet" so you can find passages quickly. Get your Bible and highlighter out and prepare. Most importantly be sensitive to the leadership of the Holy Spirit when listening/talking to people. Your friends can help out too. Street ministry is not "every man for himself". You will be part of a small team keeping an eye on each other.
